Job Description:

Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of HR Generalist / Human Resource Analyst I (00498). Longwood Human Resources is seeking a detailed, professional, customer service-oriented HR Generalist who will focus on recruitment and selection, onboarding, offboarding, and administering a complex benefits package.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Process the full cycle recruitment process from job vacancy announcements through the offer: receive and process requests for recruitment; write position vacancy announcements based on position descriptions; post advertisements on various sites; review applications to match experience with specific job-related requirements; provide guidance and assistance to faculty and staff on the recruitment and selection process using effective and efficient communication; ensure appropriate interview and selection process; make offers and issue letters, etc.
  • Responsible for benefits administration: communicating Longwood University's benefit plans to employees; follow-up with new hires to ensure benefit elections occur before deadlines; ensure accurate eligibility, enrollment process, and/or claim handling; assist employees with resolving issues regarding claims processing and appeals; conduct benefit overviews and counseling sessions; ensure benefit transactions are entered timely and processed with payroll; various other benefit related duties
  • Responsible for onboarding: send onboarding packets timely; ensure new hire paperwork processed timely, follow-up as necessary; process I-9s within deadlines; maintain orientation list; ensure orientation agenda and schedule are handled appropriately; present information during new hire orientations, etc.
  • Responsible for preparing and issuing employment contracts for new and returning staff/faculty
  • Responsible for offboarding: ensure separation letters are sent timely; remove benefits from employee records, etc.
  • Maintain records and compile reports
  • Ensure compliance with all Human Resources, University, and Commonwealth of Virginia policies, procedures, and practices, as well as applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  • Provide courteous, professional, accurate, and timely responsiveness in all interactions with faculty, staff, students, and the public
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

 


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a very high-paced work environment with the ability to change work direction at any given time to meet the demands of the office
  • Ability to work within aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Strong critical thinking, time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; must communicate/interact respectfully and courteously with a high degree of professionalism; ability to clearly communicate information orally and in writing
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment with the ability to change work direction at any given time to meet the demands of the office; proven ability to effectively organize and prioritize
  • Must be honest, flexible, collaborative, reliable, motivated, responsible, accountable, productive, and resilient, with a positive, customer service-focused attitude
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to quickly learn a variety of systems
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices for recruitment and selection preferred
  • Work experience interpreting and applying state and federal human resource laws and regulations including but not limited to, Title VII, HIPAA, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, COBRA, ACA, EEO preferred
  • Work experience in administering benefits including health, life, and retirement plans preferred
  • Working knowledge of onboarding of new hires preferred
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia policies, procedures, practices, systems, and benefit plans preferred

 


Additional Information:

This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in a pay band 4. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits accompany this position.
