The Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking an Open Campus Coordinator. This is a part-time (0.75 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
The Oregon State University (OSU) Open Campus Coordinator is a member of the OSU Division of Extension and Engagement’s (division) Partnerships Unit. As a team member of the Partnerships Unit, which includes the Open Campus and Juntos Programs, this professional faculty position will have regional and statewide responsibilities. This Coordinator will serve the Eastern Oregon region, primarily Baker County. This position will be based at the Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) Baker County Center. This position is supervised by the Assistant Director of Open Campus and decisions regarding this position will be made in collaboration with the supervision team at OSU.
OSU Open Campus is a partnership among Oregon State University and the local communities, including the K-12 education systems, regional economic and community development groups, and many of Oregon’s Community Colleges. OSU Open Campus strives to provide community-based career and college access programs, pre-transfer student support, and community engagement and vibrancy. This Open Campus Coordinator will provide local leadership, coordination, and foster partnerships needed to advance and sustain the Partnerships Unit and its Open Campus programs and goals. As a member of the OSU Open Campus team, this coordinator supports K-12 students on their pathways to postsecondary opportunities; connects community college students with any 4-year college and university advisors and other resources as necessary; looks for and creates opportunities for increased partnership opportunities between the university, partnering organizations, and community members; and delivers educational presentations to students and families and at community events. Active and effective communication with OSU employees and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position.
This position includes activities on-site at BMCC Baker County Center, with regular weekly travel throughout Baker County and occasionally to other Eastern Oregon counties to work with students and families on post-secondary plans, including students who are interested in transferring to a four-year university, and for community events and presentations. This position will also work closely in partnership with the Juntos Coordinator serving Eastern Oregon to support students and families in these communities. Some travel/driving to Corvallis is expected (an average of 3-4 visits per year to Corvallis). Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
This Open Campus Coordinator is responsible for providing educational programming and outreach activities that serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with civil rights and language/visual access regulations.

About Partnerships Unit:
The Division of Extension and Engagement’s Partnerships Unit has a focus on community engagement, development of learning opportunities, and increasing access to postsecondary education. OSU Partnerships Unit works in collaboration with Oregon State University, the Association of Oregon Counties, Oregon’s Community Colleges, regional economic development groups, the K-12 education systems, the business communities and local government. The goal of OSU Partnerships Unit is to support community vitality, career and college access, and degree completion/support.
The OSU Open Campus Program is a program designed to support Oregon high school and college students along their postsecondary journey, including college (as well as the transfer process), careers, and trade and technical institutional support, and to strengthen community vitality
The OSU Juntos Program is a college and career access program delivered in Spanish that partners with Oregon school systems K-12 and community engagement programs to further enhance and empower the students’ and families’ postsecondary experience.

Key Responsibilities
30% – Open Campus local program coordination
- Create, pilot, and evaluate an innovative partnership between Oregon State University and Blue Mountain Community College to continue to build a college going culture across Baker County and support rural students on all postsecondary education and career pathways.
- Contribute to and implement existing Open Campus student support curriculum (e.g., PASOS Colegiales|College STEPS, Transfer STEPS, CTE and Trades STEPS, FAFSA/ORSAA workshops, college application workshops), including helping develop and implement assessments to measure the effectiveness of the curriculums.
- Create opportunities for increased engagement between OSU, BMCC, partnering organizations, and the community, including coordinating local college access opportunities for Oregon State University and other higher education institutions.
- Monitor educational offerings and student support for quality control, accuracy, and branding.
- Follow all regulations under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Institutional Review Board (IRB) and OSU Youth Safety Guidelines.
- Use multiple methods of digital communication to collaborate both internally and externally as necessary.
- Create research-based, non-credit, educational materials (handouts, curriculum, media based) and/or utilize existing research-based materials to support the delivery of non-credit educational programs, ensuring materials are accessible, inclusive, and culturally appropriate.
- Follow OSU and division brand guidelines, digital publishing standards and digital contact management data integrity practices for programmatic communications, marketing and engagement.
- Lead volunteers/facilitators, students or interns who assist with Open Campus and Juntos programs.
30% – Student support on postsecondary pathways
- Provide direct support to high school, college, and non-traditional students, documenting and recording each interaction in OSU systems (e.g., HubSpot, SalesMessage).
- Communicate with students and families via tabling, appointments, email, texting, and information sessions. Individuals will have different communication styles and expectations.
- Provide 1:1 assistance to students including FAFSA/ORSAA support, college and other postsecondary application workshops, scholarship notices and application support, experiential opportunities, and student success strategies.
- Utilize research-based best practices for supporting pre-transfer community college students and suggest corrective strategies and actions when necessary.
- Provide CTE, trades, and workforce support to youth and adult learners, including career-focused events and programming and 1:1 student support (in partnership with Youth CTE, Trades, and Workforce Development state specialist).
- Collaborate with the BMCC Baker County team and develop working relationships with 4-year college and university academic advisors to assist students with academic program planning, course selection, pre-professional application requirements, and registration.
- Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other backgrounds, including participation in proactive advising efforts to support students of all backgrounds.
- Travel/driving throughout Baker County will be required on a regular (weekly) basis to work with prospective students who are interested in transferring/learning about college, career, and other postsecondary options and for community events and presentations.
30% – Open Campus regional and statewide leadership
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with local stakeholders, including school districts, to increase the programming of Open Campus and Juntos (in partnership with Juntos Coordinator) throughout Eastern Oregon.
- Deliver non-credit educational presentations at community events and for K-12 and community college partners.
- Create accessible and inclusive environments and provide reasonable accommodations.
- Provide statewide leadership and educational opportunities for the Partnership coordinators across Oregon to learn and understand how to follow best practices for supporting and advising rural students in their local community.
- Provide fiscal leadership for Open Campus in Eastern Oregon, including budget management, donations, grant management, and local support for programs.
- Implement continuous assessment of community’s educational needs around college/postsecondary access and manage Open Campus programming in response to these needs.
- Evaluate effectiveness and appropriateness of local programming and Open Campus goals to document the impact on and value to the communities and report to the community and other stakeholders on local impacts.
- Travel/driving will be required to deliver non-credit educational programming and services throughout Baker County (weekly) and occasional travel to other parts of Eastern Oregon (monthly or less).
10% – Service and other
- Participate in professional activities and serve on appropriate boards, councils and committees of the University, the Division of Extension & Engagement, BMCC, and the Community.
- Participate in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, and trainings.
- Participate in OSU Division of Extension & Engagement, OSU Partnerships Unit, OSU Open Campus, and Blue Mountain Community College activities as directed.
- Complete the division’s civil rights training session(s).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in education, student services, adult education, Extension-related education field, counseling, or other field related to the duties of this position. Degree must be completed by the application date.
- One (1) year of experience in college or university academic advising, or student activities programming, or teaching/counseling of secondary or post-secondary individuals.
- Enthusiastic and strong motivation to promote student success.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate with a broad and diverse audience in a culturally responsible manner.
- Experience building collaborations with external organizations and maintaining professional relationships with external stakeholders.

- General knowledge and ability to use computers, including information technology, professional office software, and collaborative work platforms.
- Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage competing time demands, while also working as a collaborative member of a geographically separated team.
- Ability to successfully interact with youth 12-19 years of age (7th through 12th grade) as well as adult learners
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Master’s degree in education, student services, adult education, Extension-related education field, counseling, or other field related to the duties of this position.
- Experience within public education, higher education, vocational education, or Extension Service education.
- Experience developing and/or delivering curriculum around college access, financial aid, scholarships, or youth development (e.g., College Bound, AVID, ASPIRE).
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) and ability to engage Spanish speaking audiences through the utilization of bi-literate and bicultural skills.
- Ability to secure external funding support for educational programs.
- Ability to use web, social media, or other digital technologies in outreach activities to achieve goals.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility to work in a variety of settings and on evenings and weekends.
This position will serve the Oregon’s Eastern Region (primarily Baker County with limited travel to other parts of Eastern Oregon) and travel/driving will be required to meet with Partnerships Unit team and partners, attend trainings and/or Unit programs, and to share information about the Partnerships Unit at conferences and other outreach opportunities as well as to fulfill the general work requirements of this position.
